This is the new and improved Small Car Performance Flexible Dipstick. Unlike our previous design that uses a teflon tube with suction to check the oil, this dipstick is more traditional and uses a metal probe to show oil level. With this installed, you can easily check your oil level using the Vanagon license plate door. The bracket for the dipstick can be attached using self tapping screws or a rivenut.
Use Instructions
With clean oil it is best to rely on the dipstick's thru holes to view oil level. Follow the instructions below.
- Remove the dipstick, whipe it off, then blow out all 5 holes so that they are free of oil.
- Insert the dip stick and rotate it 360 degrees 2 to 3 times.
- Remove the dipstick and hole it up to a light. All 5 holes should be full of oil when the oil level is correct. When just the bottom hole is full you are about a quart low.
With dirty oil you may not need to rely on the thru holes. Simply look to see that the oil is up to the 5th hole on the stick.

Flexible metal dipstick
The new version still requires blowing out the holes like the old one. This always provides a good opportunity to yell a long word in German like a boss before blowing and helps to remind rubberneckers that VW’s are something to be respected and marveled at. “Why can’t my proctologist yell like that before my examination? Doesn’t anyone take their jobs seriously anymore? Lebensabschnittsgefährte!!!”
