This timing belt guide usually comes on engine installed in Subaru with manual transmission to keep the belt in place during engine braking between shifts or rolled backward in gear. We recommend installing this over the crank pulley if your engine is out of an automatic Subaru and installing it in a manual Vanagon.
Gap between the belt and guide shoud be 1.0±0.5 mm (0.039±0.020 in).
