Schwenk Springs are a significant upgrade from the stock VW Vanagon Springs but importantly are still in compliance with stock VW specs for ride height, alignment, and shock valving – making trips to alignment and mechanic shops headache free.

How will these Schwenk Westy Springs affect my ride height?

An empty 2WD Vanagon Westy will have a ride height of approximately 17.25”, measuring from the center of the wheel/axle to the lower lip of the fender. Keep in mind that ride heights will vary slightly depending on the load of your particular Westy.

The ride height Westy Springs provide is designed to deliver optimal suspension travel and ground clearance. "Optimal means that the height is designed to ensure the use of the full range of suspension travel, as designed by VW, without topping out due to excessive ride-height, or requiring ball-joint extenders.


What's the spring rate of Schwenk Westy Springs?

Westy Schwenk Springs are linear or straight wound springs which will feel moderately stiffer than stock VW springs.  Schwenk tested three sets of prototypes in developing these springs before settling on a spring rate. The goal was to eliminate the negative effects of the too-soft stock springs while keeping the suspension responsive and supple.

What's so great about Chrome Silicon Pre-Tensioned Steel?

All Schwenk Springs are made of Chrome Silicon Pre-Tensioned Steel. Chrome Silicon is simply the best material available for automotive springs for the simple reason that it does not sag over time, like other spring steel does. In addition, it can be wound to closer tolerances - meaning more accurate and consistent spring rates across the entirety of the manufacturing process.
